Governance

Praise be to Allah and may Allah raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad and protect his nation.

Rationale

The Governing Body of Salamah College is charged with upholding the School’s mission, vision, and values, and has a legal obligation under the Education Act 1990 (NSW) to comply with its latest amendments. To maintain the School’s adherence to these guiding principles, the Governing Body must continually uphold the essential qualities. Therefore, when appointing new members, the primary criterion should be their alignment with the School’s current mission, vision, and values.

Roles And Responsibilities

The Governing Body’s primary responsibility is overseeing the School’s governance, which includes long-term financial planning, administrative policies, and accountability. The Principal’s role is defined by the Governing Body and involves managing the School’s day-to-day operations. This includes overseeing the School’s functioning, implementing the curriculum, managing teaching and learning programs, conducting assessments, ensuring health and safety, supporting student welfare, selecting and supervising staff, and facilitating their professional development. Additionally, the Principal is responsible for maintaining enrolment and attendance records, managing the school’s facilities, resources, and equipment, and overseeing building maintenance.

The Chairperson And The Governing Body

The Chairperson is responsible for conducting thorough background checks to ensure that nominated members are of good character and meet the criteria of a “responsible person” as outlined by the Act. Once nominated, Board Members are convened for a meeting where they are briefed on their legal responsibilities, provided with a copy of the Registered and Accredited Individual Non‐government Schools (NSW) Manual, and required to sign all necessary documents.

The Duties Of The Governing Body

The Governing Body is entrusted with various legal responsibilities under the Education Act. Its primary role is to identify, address, and safeguard issues, ultimately being accountable for the School’s overall operation to foster high standards of educational achievement. Additionally, the Governing Body must ensure that the School’s aims and ethos are effectively executed and must set the strategic objectives and direction for the School.
